M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation Community Agrobiodiversity Centre
Community Agrobiodiversity Centre A Social Innovation for Community Empowerment in Agro-biodiversity Conservation: Community Agrobiodiversity Centre is a regional centre of M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (www.mssrf.org). The Centre came into force in 1997 to primarily deliver the concept of community agrobiodiversity management with its 4 integrated dimensions -conservation, cultivation, consumption and commerce. This C4 method is now being evolved as a strategic and holistic approach for sustainable biodiversity management. The Principal Service Lines with which the Centre operates are: (i) Participatory Demonstrations of sustainable livelihood, food security and conservation methods; (ii) Field Research in the area of Ethno botany; Ecology; Conservation; and Angiosperm Taxonomy of high priority plant species; (iii) Policy Advocacy in the area of sustainable natural/bio- resource management and biodiversity conservation; (iv) Capacity Building Programmes in sustainable agriculture with a focus on local community development.
