VIKSAT is an activity of the Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD), and works to promote and strengthen people’s institutions through interactions, for an equitable, gender sensitive, sustainable development and management of natural resources.VIKSAT majorly works on the following five thematic areas namely 1. Land & Water Management, 2. Sustainable Livelihoods, 3. Institution & Capacity Building, 4. Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), 5. Environment & Climate Change.
VIKSAT is directly working in 615 villages, with 50000 families in 7 districts of Gujarat and 27 aspirational districts from 8 states of India as Knowledge Partner. Over the years, with increasing experience working at the grassroots level, with communities in their local regions,towards developing models which ensure the sustainability of livelihoods through natural resource management.
VIKSAT has always been closed governed by a set of eminent personalities since its inception. We acknowledge the contributions of our previous chairpersons, Prof. M.S. Swaminathan (Father of Green Revolution) and Shri V.B.Eswaran (IAS), who had those values which have been amply illustrated in terms of what VIKSAT is all about, as these have very much become a part of us. Currently, VIKSAT is chaired by Shri Kartikeya V. Sarabhai.
Professionals of VIKSAT are having more than two decades of experience in the Development Sector with various renowned organization’s primarily in the areas of Capacity Building, Agriculture, Social Impact, Livelihood, WASH & Environment, and Forestry. VIKSAT has highly skilled professionals. All are well-qualified and have extensive experience in their respective fields.
