MCRC has designed and developed various biogas systems to produce methane for sustainable fuel supply in rural areas. Various substrates like cow dung, food waste, vegetable waste, algal biomass and leaf biomass of different plants have been tested for biogas production. A consortium of bacteria was developed to enhance the biogas production. In an effort to improve the anaerobic digestion process and enhance the biogas yield, reactors of 50 L and 60 L capacity with special designs were fabricated. Also, to enhance the quality of feed slurry, various treatments were studied with phototrophic bacteria, phosphate solubilizing bacteria on cow dung. The methane content was observed to be quiet high in all treatments compared to the untreated control.
